Destination Vacation: Christmas

Are you going on Vacation for Christmas? If you are, you might be going along Which translated means- A long car ride. All the excitement and then you sit in a car for 15 hours bored. If this explains you sometimes, fear no more! Today I will be showing you some fun car boredom buster ideas including backseat games, DIY snacks, and a FREE Christmas activity book printable! Come on! Let's make this fun!

*Even if your trip is only 4 hours you can try these things too. These activities work for car trips of any length.

BACKSEAT GAMES:

Do you like to play games (Sports don't count)? If so, these ideas are for you. These game ideas are pretty much clean games (So your car won't be a mess), they also don't require a lot of supplies (If any), and they are also fun.

Backseat Games table of contents:

1. Backseat Bingo

2: License plate game

3: Finish the story

Backseat Bingo

If you are a very attentive person, this game is for you. All you need to play is, a list of fun things to look for in the car, and that's it!

Here is the list I created:

Of course, you don't have to stick to this list, but it just gives you an idea of what types of things you can put on a list like that.

Anyways,  to play, each person gets a bingo sheet. (Arrange your items into a bingo). The first person to check of bingo (5 things in a row) WINS!!!

Winners prize idea: Getting to pick what you listen for for the next 20 min.

License Plate game:

To play this game, you will want a map like this one:

Each person in the car will get a map sheet, and a set of pens/crayons/markers. When you see a car with a license plate of one of the US states, you color in the state that car was from. The first person to color in 20 states WINS!! (*This will also test your map skills!)

Modification: Print out a sheet of a list of al the US states instead of the map without the state on the map.

Finish the Story

This game is especially fun if someone in your family tells silly stories. To start, you will need a starting story like this one:

This story is fun because the outcome will be funny. You will go around the car and each person adds a sentence to the story. A story using the prompt above could end up like this. . .

"Kelly went shopping. When she arrived the stores was packed with bears. Kelly raced outside the store when a Lamborghini picked her up and took her to Canada. She lived happily ever after. The end"

This is a game your family is sure to love!

DIY TRAVEL SNACKS FOR YOUR CHRISTMAS CAR TRIP:

DIY Smores granola bars

Lets make a SUPER yummy treat for your next road trip. These granola bars are yummy and NO-BAKE - Double Oh La la!!

You will need:

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup Nutella spread
  • 2 ½ cups rolled oats
  • ½ cup + 2 Tablespoons miniature chocolate chips
  • ½ cup + 2 Tablespoons miniature marshmallow bits

Now, let's make the bars.

1. Place the butter and honey in a saucepan and heat over medium low heat until melted. 2. Stir in Nutella spread and stir until melted. Remove from heat.
3. Pour in the oats and stir until completely coated. Let the mixture cool for 5 minutes.
4. Add the mini chocolate chips and mini marshmallow bits. Stir quickly until they are just mixed in. Pour the mixture into a greased 8x8 baking dish.
5. Sprinkle the top of the granola with 1-2 Tablespoons of extra mini marshmallows and chocolate chips.
6. Place a piece of wax paper on the top, and press down firmly. You need to really compress the mixture, so it holds together once it cools.
7. Let the bars completely cool and set before cutting into 10 bars. Store in a sealed container.

There are so may different that you can make for car trips. Of few of my favorite are, rice crispy treats, and other mess-free stuff.
